The Technology of Programmable Textile with 3D-printer

This project aimed to explore the potentials of 4d printing using a commercial 3d printer and synthetic fabric. When printing 2D patterns onto a stretched piece of elastic fabric, 3D forms reflect due to the occurring tension between rigid lines and the flexible areas. During the process, we experimented with 2D simple geometrical shapes, printed line width and thickness, as well as combining different filaments and fabric materials. This technology of programmable textiles provides functional as well as aesthetic qualities which opens a new perspective on textiles in product design.
